I showed Sacha, a 15-year old girl in Year 10 at my school Rough Cuts 8 & 13, and she said there is. huge difference made in terms of understanding the characters with the addition of voiceovers.
She proved to be a prime example of my target audience as she was quiet familiar with a number of teen and adult rom-com/coming of age films, and sees the representation of LGBt characters and bullying in school as important, relevant issues.
What was also interesting is how she read the teachers all complementing Hugh's character as a sign they don't notice that bullying goes on their school, very negative representation of older age groups.
