Development of the Story

I wanted to challenge the heteronormative conventions of commercial cinema, and wanted to have a gay character in my film opening.

Original concept:

Woody-Allan like outsider protagonist, unproductive wannabe writer. Bisexual protagonist
Productive, quirky, artist
Sister, party-goer, teen stereotype, is dating artist without Woody Jr. knowing
Best friend of Woody Allan Jr. Hint through a photo

Theme of Twelfth Night, discovering new sides of gender and sexuality:;

Goth-like protagonist (Trick r Treat, Heathers,
Same artist character
New character, Jock, 10 Things I Hate About You
Best friend now blonde Maxxie-like dancer (Maxxie from Skins,
(sister character has been dropped)

Wyatt Upperberg didn't have that much time after all, and I didn't feel any other male actors would suit the role, and I realised that there were more girls who could play the role, so instead  I cast Hannah Ni in the role.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROTAGONIST

From the start a teenager, not part of the mainstream, feels like an outsider
A  middle-class male who is a wannabe writer

A working class goth, because my teacher thought that it wouldn't be convincing for a teenager to be a writer in a rom-com, and that there needed to be a binary between the jock and him

A goth, quirky, both feminine and masculinely dressed lesbian girl,
